WROY/WRUL Local Sports Recap – 8/11/2025
Today is the official first day of practice for all IHSA Fall Sports teams.
The Carmi-White County Football team will begin preparations for their first game on August 29th against Johnston City. The Bulldogs will begin practice this afternoon at the end of College Boulevard. Clinton Wolff begins his first season at the helm after taking over for Kurt Simon, who retired after 28 seasons. The Bulldogs will travel to Mt. Carmel next Friday, August 22nd for a scrimmage with the Golden Aces.
The Carmi-White County Lady Bulldog Volleyball team will hold tryouts this afternoon from 3-5 PM. The Lady Bulldogs will have two full weeks of preparation before their first match on August 25th at home against Mt. Carmel. Fans will have a chance to get a sneak peak of this year’s team next Thursday, August 21st in this year’s CWCHS Fall Sports Preview. Fans who cannot attend will be able to watch the Fall Sports Preview on the WRUL Sports YouTube Channel.
The Carmi-White County Boys and Girls Golf teams will not have nearly as much time to prepare for their first match as they will begin their season this Thursday when they travel to Mt. Carmel for the Mt. Carmel Invite. Jeremy Jordan is entering his first season as Head Coach of the Bulldog and Lady Bulldog Golf Teams.
The Carmi-White County Girls Tennis team will hold tryouts today and tomorrow at Bradshaw Park from 3:30 – 5 PM. The Lady Bulldog tennis team will begin their season on August 27th when they travel to Olney. Julia Smith is entering her first season as Head Coach.
The Carmi-White County Cross Country teams will have plenty of time to prepare for their first meet, they will not begin their season until September 11th when they travel to West Frankfort.
There will be a parent/player meeting for ALL CWCHS parents and athletes tonight at 6:30 pm in the high school auditorium. This will be for ALL sports – fall, winter & spring. All CWCHS coaches will be in attendance to answer any questions.
Carmi-White County Junior High Baseball and Softball will begin their seasons this week. The Bullpups will host Salem this afternoon for their first game of the season. The Lady Bullpups will host Carterville tomorrow at Archie Brown Field. Both teams will then host Hamilton County on Wednesday, and Mt. Vernon (IL) on Thursday. The Lady Bullpups will then take part in the Marion tournament on Saturday.
