The Carmi Kiwanis Club held its weekly luncheon meeting in the Farm Bureau Building on Thursday, December 7, 2017. The meal was prepared and catered by Yesterdays.
Following the meal Sandra Bryant, Executive Director of Wabash Christian Village, introduced Lauren Keehn who is an Occupational Therapist at Wabash who presented a program on “Ergonomics in the Work Place”.
She explained that ergonomics is the study of the work space and environment and how you perform your job tasks to prevent injury.
She then identified several biophysical techniques in the work place that help to eliminate injuries and to help workers to perform their job more comfortably and effectively. Among those were 1) correct posture to assist in spine alignment, 2) work place considerations such as proper equipment, flexibility of work space, rest periods, timely stretching, etc., 3) body mechanics to maintain back alignment, 4) proper lifting techniques, being observant of things around you, and eliminate repetitive twisting, 5) prolonged sitting objectives to prevent long-term health issues such as heart disease, muscle degeneration and imbalance issues.
In club business, club president, Holly Healy, recognized Debbie Hoskins as a guest. Keith Hoskins won the 50/50 drawing and Healy reminded Kiwanians that next weeks meeting will be held at Brownsville School for the annual Christmas party.
