The local FFA chapter in Carmi hasn’t skipped a beat despite the retirement of Bobby Lamp who headed up the organization. Luckily, Bobby’s nephew John has picked up right where the 30-year-educator left off and FFA remains strong with about 170 members making it the largest club in the school. The younger Lamp dropped by Kiwanis Thursday with about a dozen of the club’s members including this year’s officers. They include President Addy Lamont, VP Kami James, Secretary Johanna Zieren, Treasurer Katelyn Garner, Historian Gage Anderson, Sentinel Gracin Barbre, and Chaplain Christian Fields. With Lamp moving into the main role as club support, he’s joined by new co-advisor Grace Glaser.
The group just finished up with proficiency awards. Three of them advanced to the district level including Fields, Zieren, and Lamont to compete next Wednesday. Additionally, three members were just recognized with state degrees, the highest award an FFA member can receive in the state of Illinois.
Prior to this year, I can’t tell you the last year we’ve had more than one FFA member in a year get their state degree. They’re Addy Lamont, Johanna Zieren, and Brooke Rahmoeller.
The pork chop feed is coming up Friday and Barnyard is scheduled for April 17th.
It’s a little bit earlier this year. We had a conflict with Brownsville school and we love to be able to put that on for Brownsville as well as all the other younger students in the district. The date we initially had it set for, we had a conflict for them and we wanted to include them so we’ve got it set now for April 17th.
Tomorrow is also the muddiest truck contest as part of the FFA Week celebration. You can keep up with the club on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086394850705
