Hughes Receives Nine Year Sentence

Hughes receives Nine Year Sentence

A 50 year old man was sentenced to prison Tuesday in White County Court on a charge of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child; a class X felony.

Joseph L. Hughes was ordered to serve nine years behind bars, with three years of mandatory supervised release following his prison term.

Hughes was convicted following a stipulated bench trial. The mandatory release could actually stretch from three years to life, as determined by the Illinois Department of Corrections. And based upon the offense, Hughes will have to serve at least 85 % of the prison time.

Norris City police was the investigating agency in the matter.

McLeansboro Attorney Alan Downen represented Hughes in the bench trial.

White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud prosecuted the case.
