Harper Behind Bars on Warrants and New Charges

A local man with a criminal history is back in custody.  Leif Harper, now 26, most recently listed as living on Sycamore Street was taken into custody Friday morning by White County Sheriff’s authorities.  According to the report, Harper was causing a disturbance at Enfield One Stop just before 10:30am, but dispatch advised he’d just left heading for town on foot.  The deputy who arrived first located Harper and advised him of a White County warrant after which the deputy says Harper complied with being taken into custody.  Following processing, a routine search of the deputy’s squad car, accompanied by suspicion of Harper allegedly trying to throw something out of the backseat window in transport, revealed a clear plastic bag containing 14 pills identified as Oxycodone.  The warrants Harper was wanted on date back to 2019, 2021 and 2022 with the oldest two being out of White County for separate Aggravated Battery charges; the other out of Edwards County in 2022 on a Domestic Battery charge.  Harper also picked up new citations for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Obstructing Justice.  Harper was in court Monday for a first appearance; he’s got a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 20th.
