For the last 18 years, Curt Hale has worked for the City of Carmi. In the summer of 2024, he launched a side business, I T Revival LLC. Though he’s worked in multiple departments, Hale is currently an IT professional and he credits the current administration for providing the path.
Because they approached me during CoViD in 2020. The city was spending quite a bit of money on IT services by a third party and I was asked if I could take over some of that. So that’s kind of how I learned some of the skills I learned was learning the ropes from some of the third party people. I also have to thank our city clerk Cynthia Attebury because she’s trusted me to handle quite a few things too as far as computers and internet. And then Jason Eaton was hired later on and I have to give a shout out to him. He’s really trained me on some cybersecurity stuff that I use in my side business.
He didn’t initially intend to end up in the technology field, Hale told Carmi Kiwanis on Thursday. A 2001 graduate of CWCHS and 2006 graduate of USI with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Hale is quick to point to his many positive influences including his parents who just celebrated their 50th anniversary, his wife Sarah, and his 3 children for helping him land in fortunate circumstances. Hale says Carmi losing it’s lone device repair business and the imminence of having two teenagers driving in his household is what prompted launching I T Revival. As far as services offered…
I’m a full service computer and electronics repair company. We do computer repairs and upgrades, mobile device repair and maintenance, we install camera systems, we do ethernet network maintenance including server management and cabling, telephone wiring and maintenance, basic technology troubleshooting, and provide consulting to customers for all things IT related.
He says he learned from a trusted colleague early on that people rarely get into IT because they love computers. Luckily, that feeds directly into Hale’s personal mission statement. When he’s not working in IT, watching his daughter play sports, or enjoying St. Louis Blues hockey, you can find Hale preaching once a month at Mt. Carmel Church of Christ.
The reason you get into IT is because you want to help people. I didn’t think about that much at the time, but as I’ve been in IT with the city the last 5 years and what I do on the side, I do understand it. Because you catch people on some of their worst days. Something’s not working and they can’t get their jobs done because something’s not cooperating…I see some eyes of sympathy up here because you all know how that goes. So the first thing I do when I walk into a situation is realize I’m here to help. I have to put everything on my mind off to the side because if I walk into that tense situation and I’ve got some tension, it’s never going to work. That’s the one thing I take a lot of pride in is the reason this side business exists is just to help people.
