FMH Named One of the Top US Skilled Nursing Facilities

Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Care Unit has been named among the “America’s Best Nursing Homes” to the 2025 US News and World Report Best Nursing Homes list with an overall 5-star rating.

The U.S. News Best Nursing Homes ratings are based on the most detailed analysis of the country’s skilled nursing facilities. These are the only published ratings that recognize the two very different types of care provided by skilled nursing facilities:

1. Short-Term Rehabilitation for patients following a hospitalization for surgery, heart attack, stroke, injury or similar condition.

2. Long-Term Care for patients who are no longer able to live independently and need help with daily activities.

To be recognized as one of the 2025 U.S. News Best Nursing Homes, a home must have been “High Performing” in short-term rehabilitation, long-term care or both. Only 19% of almost 15,000 skilled nursing facilities rated by U.S. News meet that standard. Fairfield Memorial Hospital Skilled Care Unit was rated “High Performing” in both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care.

“With every visit to the Skilled Care Unit, I see exceptional commitment to showing compassionate, high-quality care to residents by the Skilled Care team. This recognition reflects their hard work, teamwork, and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of those they serve.” stated Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer, Rachel Ewing, MSN, RN.

The Skilled Care Unit at Fairfield Memorial Hospital provides short-term skilled care nursing and services to those who require medical care, nursing care, and/or rehabilitation services. Under the direction of the patient’s physician, the FMH Skilled Care Unit provides: 24-hour pharmacy services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, respiratory therapy, skilled nursing services, medication, blood transfusion, wound care, discharge planning, and daily activities.

Skilled Care Unit Director, Christina Simpson, RN, reflects on receiving the honor, “Our Skilled Care Team provides exceptional care day in and day out, working together as a team to create a positive environment for not only each other but for our residents. At times it is caring for someone in their final days, others it is working hard to get a resident back home and in any of these situations we strive to make a lasting impact on each resident and family we encounter. I am proud of our team and thankful that we are

given the opportunity to serve our community and surrounding counties. I know without the Team we have it would not be possible, this award is truly the highest honor of recognition for our staff.”
