FMH DONATES TO SOPHIA BALLARD TO ATTEND PRE-MEDICINE CAMP

Fairfield Memorial Hospital has donated $1,000 in scholarship funds to Sophia, daughter of Dr. Christopher and Jerri Ballard, to attend a Pre-Medicine camp at Pensacola Christian College this summer. Sophia was sent a special invitation from Pensacola Christian College, and due to her aspirations to be a medical doctor, like her father, she felt this Pre-Medicine camp would give her a jump start in beginning her field of medicine studies.

By attending this particular Pre-Medicine camp, Sophia will be fueling her passion for the medical sciences by practicing medical techniques that emphasize Christian values. By recognizing God as the source of life, this Pre-Medicine Camp will provide scientific/medical training with a Scriptural foundation. She will also explore the medical sciences with practical training and hands-on experience.

Sophia will be participating in daily activities that include abundant experience in the PCC laboratories where she can safely study germs and bacteria under a microscope, learn how some of the tiniest creatures affect lives. She will also study anatomy and physiology by dissecting animals under the direction of knowledgeable instructors.  At this pre-medicine camp, Pensacola Christian College instructors will share insight and expertise in both scientific and spiritual care. The instructors will also offer practical guidance for understanding what is needed to study medicine in college, which will provide Sophia a picture of what her medical career will look like.  She will also develop friendships with other campers during group activities and recreation times using the PCC Sports CenterSwim Center, and more. In addition, the daily chapel will provide opportunities for spiritual growth.

Katherine Bunting-Williams, Ph.D., FMH CEO, stated, “We are very pleased to provide support to future medical leaders and believe that this opportunity is priceless for Sophia who wants to venture into the medical field.”

“I am beyond grateful to Fairfield Memorial Hospital for the support in sending me to Pre-Medicine camp at Pensacola Christian College this summer.  I will now be able to begin a hands-on study of medicine,” stated Sophia Ballard.
