At first reading, you’d be forgiven if you got a little warm hearing the financial report at Monday night’s Grayville Council meeting. Treasurer Sharon Walden reported Restricted accounts and investments totaling more than $3 million, but cash on hand for operations at negative $55,882 and change. She would quickly quell anxieties by saying the reason was a temporary one and that the municipality is in fine shape.
We have a cash available for operations negative but we’ve not made our tax deposit yet. Payroll is in this though which is coming out on Thursday. We’ll be in fine shape once we make our deposit.
Mayor Travis Thompson reported 250 August calls for service through the Police Department in Chief Seigel’s absence. Additionally, Grayville’s fourth police officer started Monday.
Zach Coale graduated from the academy on Friday. He’s got some time of field training to do before he’s on his own. But he did pass his exam and he actively started today as our fourth police officer. It’ll take approximately a month to six weeks for him to finish up his field training.
Coale was hired at the March 25th council meeting.
Also Monday night, council members approved the final reading of the solicitors/peddlers ordinance, approved the Friends of Grayville request to close streets for their annual car show on October 4th from 6am – 4pm, and set Trick or Treat Hours for the city on Halloween night from 5pm – 8pm.
Council reviewed and approved four bids on excess equipment. Alex Youngblood won the bid on the bucket truck at $1,500. Emergency Remarketing out of Ohio bid $768.18 and won the Ford Explorer. Louis Evans will spend $550 and pick up a SCAG mower form the city. Evans also bid on the Ford Utility truck, but the Little Wabash Fire Protection District topped his amount. They’ll get that vehicle for $2,000.
Grayville leaders approved quotes for demolishing city owned properties. It will cost $9,800 to tear down 117 East Martin and $6,350 to tear down 611 Water Street once the city finalizes paperwork to take possession of that property. Both quotes were approved.
And finally, leaders agreed to rent a Hydromax Vac Truck for sewer work at a cost of $5,000 per day. It’s expected to be utilized for two days.
Grayville’s top bras adjourned without an executive session necessary at 7:15pm.
