Elastic on the Road
Elastec, Carmi, IL, will have a presence this week in Norfolk, Virginia to help clean the Chesapeake Bay ahead of the 30th Annual Clean the Bay Day. Using the ELASTEC Omni Catamaran, crew members will use the boat to skim and collect floating trash and debris on the surface of the water.
Elastec’s core competency is manufacturing oil spill response equipment. In past years, the company has been focusing efforts towards cleaning waterways of trash and debris which include plastics and other solid pollutants. As global awareness for plastic pollution rises, gaps in containment technology are surfacing. Elastec is currently developing a full line of products to fight plastic pollution to keep our world clean.
The Omni Cat, an innovative trash-skimming catamaran, will be cleaning litter from Norfolk’s waters with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) this Wednesday ahead of the 30th annual Clean the Bay Day. The boat’s builder, Elastec Inc., recently brought the Omni Cat here from Illinois to clean up Hampton Roads waters during the event. Reporters are invited to see this unique boat in action off the Pagoda Tea House in downtown Norfolk on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
CBF will take press out on the water on a separate boat to see close up how the Omni Cat skims litter from the waters of downtown Norfolk. Experts will be available for interviews. To RSVP ahead of time, reporters can contact Kenny Fletcher at 804-638-9036 or [email protected] Upon arriving the day of the event reporters can contact Kenny at 804-638-9036.
This comes ahead of the 31st annual Clean the Bay Day, which takes place this Saturday morning at sites across Hampton Roads and the rest of Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay watershed. Thousands of volunteers are expected to join in this major effort to pick up litter from creeks, rivers, beaches, parks, and more.
