Now is the time to sign up for Rend Lake College’s Amish Country Tour as the registration deadline for this day trip has been moved up a week. Interested parties must pre-register by Tuesday, April 26.
The trip will depart Tuesday, May 10 for a short drive to Arthur, Ill., where participants will have time for some quick sightseeing and shopping in the downtown area before embarking on a guided tour of the countryside to see several Amish homes and businesses.
A home-cooked lunch on an Amish farm – consisting of homemade bread, jam, salad, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, fresh vegetables, noodles, and pie – will be held before taking a tour of the farm itself. During the trip, attendees will also have the chance to stop at Beachy’s Bulk Foods, an Amish-owned and operated store.
Tour fees, lunch, gratuities, and bus transportation are included for the trip cost of $89. The bus will depart from the Historic Schoolhouse on the Ina campus at 7:30 a.m. May 10, and will return at 6 p.m. The same bus will also stop at the RLC MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon at 8 a.m. for pick-up and will return at 5:30 p.m.
