Dangerous Winds in the Forecast

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for our listening area, which is in effect from 10 this morning to 7 tonight.

Winds are expected from the south at 15 to 20 mph and wind gusts up to 45 mph. Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees and power lines.

Scattered power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. These winds could also lift and move trash cans, lawn furniture and other loose outdoor objects. Winds of these magnitudes may cause minor property damage without extra precautions.

Due to the wind advisory, burn bans are in place in Hurst, West Frankfort, Royalton, the Village of Carrier Mills and Zeigler until further notice. Even if your city or village does not issue a burn ban, it is a good idea with the high wind advisory to save any burning for a calmer day.

Thunderstorms pushed through the area early this morning, just after midnight, bringing heavy rain, lightning and thunder to most of our listening area. That line of storms should move out of the area early this morning, but another line of thunderstorms is expected to develop along a cold front as it pushes through later this morning and early this afternoon.

Later in the day, rain should move out of the area and we should see some sunshine, but the winds will remain a concern until 7 or later this evening.
