A traffic stop on Saturday night by the Carmi Police Department led to the arrest of a Fairfield man on DUI charges, while his passenger was arrested on drug offenses.
Officers pulled over a vehicle driven by 53 year old Mark Welty at the in intersection of Webb and Walnut Streets just after 3am Saturday morning. Welty was charged with DUI of alcohol and with driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or more. During a search of his person, officers discovered both marijuana and drug paraphernalia, which led to additional charges. Welty was also cited for operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.
A passenger in Welty’s vehicle, 40 year old Heather Juenger of Carmi, was also found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and was arrested at that time as well.
Welty and Juenger were transported to the White County Jail. Welty was released after posting a $100 bond, while Juenger was released after posting a $150 bond.
