A Carmi man is behind bars facing several charges stemming from a Sunday morning incident after being taken into custody Tuesday afternoon.
25 year old Michael Aud-Headlee was arrested at 2:15 Tuesday afternoon by Carmi Police and White County Sheriff’s deputies on Church Street in his car after being told of his whereabouts. Officers had been searching for Aud-Headlee after he assaulted a Carmi officer attempting to arrest him Sunday morning.
A 9:19 am Sunday, Aud-Headlee was spotted by a Carmi Police officer outside a residence at 623 Oak Street. Aud-Headlee was wanted on a failure to appear warrant, and the officer attempted to take him into custody. Aud-Headlee retreated into the residence, but later emerged and charged the officer, throwing a punch at him. A taser was deployed during the altercation, but Aud-Headlee was able to flee the scene in his vehicle at a high rate of speed, and police received several reports of his reckless driving.
Charges of aggravated battery of a police officer, fleeing or eluding a police officer, and resisting a police officer were filed by States Attorney Denton Aud on Tuesday afternoon.
Aud-Headlee is being held at the White County Jail on a $500 bond for the original failure to appear warrant, and a $7500 bond on the new charges.
