Several local agencies responded Thursday afternoon to rescue a Canadian man stranded in the Garden of the Gods.
According to the Saline County Sheriff’s Department, a 911 call was received at 3:50 pm from 25 year old Jachin Gillis of Ontario, Canada. Gillis stated that he had climbed the Devil’s Smokestack rock formation and could not get down. At the time of the call, Gillis stated that he had been stranded for at least 20 minutes.
A repelling team from Hardin County Emergency Management, Sheriff’s deputies from Saline and Hardin Counties, and the Equality Fire Department assisted with the rescue, which ended at 5:45 pm.
Gillis was examined by Saline County Ambulance personnel at the scene, but refused additional medical treatment.
