In Hamilton County Court Thursday, 22 year old Zachery Shock of McLeansboro waived his preliminary hearing. Shock is accused of first degree murder in the September 30th shooting death of 45 year old James Berkel. An arraignment hearing has been set for December 1st.
41 year old Alan Santiago of McLeansboro was sentenced to two years in Department of Corrections custody after pleading guilty to a charge of unlawful restraint. Santiago was accused of tying up a female victim and threatening her with a knife on July 25th. Santiago will be under mandatory court supervision for one year following his prison sentence.
A co-defendant, Robert Veach was sentenced to four years in prison on a charge of unlawful restraint from the same incident. Veach’s sentence will run concurrent with a sentence from White County on a probation violation.
34 year old Richard Rogers of McLeansboro was sentenced to five years in prison on an escape charge after he failed to report to the White County Jail in August. Rogers was sentenced to seven years in prison on August 1st on a burglary charge, but did not report by noon on August 2nd. Rogers was arrested by McLeansboro City Police on August 12th, and now will serve a total of 12 years in prison.
