The Carmi-White County Boys Basketball team put together a stronger overall effort on Tuesday night, but a hot-shooting Edwards County team controlled the game from the second quarter on as the Bulldogs fell 59-36 in Albion.
Carmi stayed within reach early, trailing 17-12 after one quarter and cutting the margin to just two points early in the second. However, Edwards County answered with an 18-5 run to close the half and take a 35-20 lead into the locker room.
The Lions kept control in the third quarter, stretching the advantage to 55-26 after three. 11 made three-pointers and 12 offensive rebounds helped fuel Edwards County’s offense throughout the night.
Merick Millhorn led CWC with 12 points, followed by Jaxon Bradshaw with 11. Hayden Sauls scored 5, Carson Miller added 3, Ian Goemaat and Lex Day each finished with 2, and Kyzen Edwards scored 1.
Despite the final score and the Bulldogs’ 1-12 overall record (1-3 in the Black Diamond Conference), Head Coach Kevin Wolff remained encouraged by the team’s willingness to compete.
“Pretty pleased with the effort,” Wolff said. “I thought we showed up better, and that’s all you can do. We’re one and whatever, and the right thing to do and the only thing you can do is to show back up and put forth your best effort.”
Carmi-White County returns home Friday night to host Fairfield at McDougal-Evers Gymnasium, before beginning the 46th Annual Carmi-White County Invitational Tournament on Monday.
