Brief and Productive Meeting for County Board
It took less than 15 minutes for the White County Board to cover the May agenda Tuesday night and that included approval of state mandated fee increases in the circuit clerk’s office.
Circuit Clerk Kelly Fulkerson explained to the board the new fees will be the same across the state and were mandated by the Illinois Supreme Court. She pointed out there were over 300 pages of the state statute, which she reduced to about 14 pages for the county board. She explained there would be penalties if the board did not approve of the resolution, which was passed unanimously.
The board approved the resignation of Gerald York from the 911 Emergency Telephone Board. York had served the 911 board for 25 years. County Board Chairman Donald Puckett said it “had been a pleasure working with Mr. York , he is quite the gentleman.”
Enfield Mayor Tom Harbour was appointed to fill the vacancy and the board approved the reappointment of Puckett to the 911 Board.
Julie Irwin, 911 coordinator said, “it’s kind of nice to have a telephone guy on the board,” referring to Puckett’s employment with Frontier.
In county officer reports, County Clerk Beth Sell reported a new employee was working out well.
Circuit Clerk Fulkerson reported the loss of two employees but explained she plans to hire two hire school students this summer, hoping to be able to do that each summer; perhaps even working a student through the school’s I O program.
Adam Allen, White County Ambulance Service Director reported over $16,000 in profit this past month, which board member Ron McAnulty corrected pointing out the service had actually shown close to $25,000 profit in the past five months.
Allen reported the ambulance service is once again running ALS services and there is plenty of staff.
County Highway Engineer Brian Ray reported the bid had been let for the 3.1 miles of Bel-Air Road to be resurfaced this summer. The bid at just over $1.5 million was submitted by E.T. Simmonds, the only company to bid on the project.
Ray also pointed out that work continues on installing new 911 signs on county roads. He indicated abut 90 percent of the work has been completed. He also urged local residents to contact the highway department if one notices any incorrect signs. He said with over 1000 signs to install, mistakes are possible.
The board adjourned just before a quarter after reminding everyone the June meeting is a day meeting as required by the state. It will be held at 9 am June 10.
