Another short meeting for the Carmi-White County School Board this month. With a brief agenda, members moved through the items quickly.
Members approved the consent agenda and FY27 budget. The board discussed a potential maintenance grant that could help the district’s schools. Superintendent Jarrod Newell shared that the JR/SR track and field may receive new lighting, thanks to individuals who have some up for grabs; the cost will be $5,000 or less. Guidelines for special education procedures were updated in March to align with WOVSED and state policies.
Student enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year is down a few students; the total is 1,221.
In closed session, the board approved two resignations, five employments, and one volunteer.
Brittany Brown and Cameron Francis will leave the school district effective this month as individual aides, Brown for Lincoln and Cameron for Brownsville.
Employments include: Tabitha Lemmons as an individual aide at Jefferson Attendance Center, Amelia Santos as a morning supervisor at Washington, Christopher Nipper as a noon supervisor at the JR/SR high school, Kyler Fisher as an assistant cook, and Chris Pollard as the 5th grade boys’ basketball coach.
Landon Driscoll will be volunteering for the junior high basketball team this school year.
