To start the month of September, the Carmi Kiwanis were introduced to the new and returning teachers in the CWC school district.
Principals from each school attended the Thursday meeting and provided an update a few weeks into the new school year.
Just a few highlights include Mrs. Price at Brownsville Attendance Center stating that the Special Olympics athletes are practicing their volleyball skills; that preparations for the chili supper fundraiser have begun; and that she gave thanks to the Brownsville Foundation for replenishing the playground mulch and to other community members for their support.
Lincoln principal Amy Atteberry shared that Lincoln is currently having its largest Kindergarten class in five years, with 88 kiddos. The Pre-K program at Lincoln is also sharing good news: they have received the highest Illinois ranking, the Gold Circle of Quality.
Mrs. Ackerman emphasized that Washington’s band enrollment included 30 new fifth graders. Mr. Haley was excited for the new junior high baseball, softball, and cross-country season.
Lastly, Mr. King noted a big change he has seen among the high schoolers since the school board changed the rules on cellphones; he has seen kids engaging with one another more in and out of the classrooms.
New faces entering into the teaching world at CWC are: Jessica Smith as a first-grade special education teacher, Holly Lindsay as a second-grade special education teacher, Macey Heil as a 4th-6th RTI teacher, Alex Maxim will be at the junior high level, Tim Pollard will be teaching a new vocational class to high school students HVAC and electricity, Devin Rankin will be a high school special education teacher; and returning part-time English teacher is Alex Aud.
