A Mt. Vernon man will serve a total of 16 years in prison after being convicted of resisting law enforcement in Posey and Vanderburgh County.
Blake Weinzapfel, age 26, appeared in the Posey Circuit Court last week where he was sentenced by Judge Craig Goedde to six (6) years in prison after being convicted of Resisting Law Enforcement, a Level 5 Felony.
As part of his plea agreement and in accordance with Indiana law, Weinzapfel’s Posey County sentence will be served consecutively to his sentence in Vanderburgh County.
In Vanderburgh County, Weinzapfel appeared in the Vanderburgh Superior Court on the morning of Monday, June 29, 2026, where he was sentenced to an additional ten (10) years after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including Resisting Law Enforcement, a Level 4 Felony; and the Habitual Offender Enhancement.
Posey County court records show that law enforcement officials responded to a residence in Mt. Vernon on November 9, 2025 upon receiving information that Weinzapfel was currently located there. According to the Probable Cause Affidavit, Weinzapfel had an active felony arrest warrant from Vanderburgh County at this time.
Upon arriving, officers with the Mt. Vernon Police Department secured the residence due to Weinzapfel’s known history of fleeing law enforcement. After a period of time attempting to call Weinzapfel out of the residence, Posey County Sheriff’s Office deputies and K9 Basco arrived to assist. When law enforcement announced that K9 Basco would be entering the residence, Weinzapfel then voluntarily surrendered and exited the residence. However, Weinzapfel further resisted law enforcement’s efforts to detain him in handcuffs. During the altercation, an officer sustained moderate bodily injury.
“Fleeing and resisting law enforcement presents a dangerous situation for our law enforcement officers, as well as the offender and any innocent bystanders,” stated Posey County Prosecutor Thomas Clowers. “Mr. Weinzapfel’s repeated poor decisions to resist and obstruct with law enforcement’s duties have resulted in a lengthy prison sentence.
I’m grateful for the collaborative efforts of law enforcement in Posey County and Vanderburgh County.”
Weinzapfel will be transported to the Indiana Department of Correction to serve his sentence.
