The Carmi-White County Girls Basketball team came up just short on Saturday, falling to Harrisburg at home by a final score of 37-33.
Carmi led 10-8 after the first quarter and carried a 17-15 advantage into halftime. Early in the third, the Lady Bulldogs really seemed to take control, stretching their lead all the way to 29-17, their biggest lead of the day. But things turned quickly from there. Harrisburg responded with an 8-0 run to close the quarter, trimming the gap to 29-25 heading into the fourth.
Carmi led 33-30 with 5 minutes to play, and Harrisburg would end the game on a 7-0 run to win it 37-33.
On the day, Carmi shot just 6-for-14 from the free throw line, leaving 8 points on the table in a 4 point loss.
Torrie Rider led Carmi with 10 points. Caroline Simmons and Addi Elliott each scored 7, while Jaya Smith added 6. Natalie Goemaat chipped in 3.
With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fall to 11-4 on the season as they have dropped four of the their last five games. They’ll try to regroup as they travel to Mt. Vernon (IN) on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup.
