Carmi Police picked up a pair of Carmi men Wednesday on Failure to Register as a Sex Offender warrants. Just after 4pm, officers arrested 64-year-old Steven Earl of Marguerite Street on the warrant at his residence. Just after 8pm, officers placed Carl Matthews of Smith Street in cuffs on the same charge. That arrest happened on 7th Street. Both men were released following booking with notices to appear.
Wednesday afternoon, just after 1:30pm, Carmi Police were dispatched to a Hillsdale home for an active dispute. On scene following an investigation, 25-year-old Carl Russ of Harrisburg was arrested after officers determined he was the aggressor according to the report. Russ is facing preliminary charges of Domestic Battery and Disorderly Conduct. In addition, because of the presence of three small children during the altercation, Russ also was charged with Endangering the Life/Health of a Child. He remains behind bars as of Thursday morning.
