Posey County Sheriff Tom Latham is acknowledging his department’s premature and inaccurate information released following a November 2025 crash that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old. It was just before 3:30am November 21st when dispatch notified law enforcement of an accident with injuries on State Road 65. The original release stated alcohol may have played a role in the deadly crash that claimed the life of Parker Payne of Cynthiana.
Latham Friday says early reports from the scene raised the issue of suspected alcohol use. After receiving the toxicology report, it has since been determined that Payne had no alcohol or any intoxicants in his system which would’ve caused impairment resulting in the crash. Latham says he has apologized to the family.
