A REMINDER ABOUT AVAILABLE EXEMPTIONS
REMEMBER THAT EXEMPTIONS SAVE YOU MONEY!
As the new year approaches, we want to remind you of exemptions that might be available to help lower your tax bill. If you have any questions about the exemptions, please feel free to contact our office and we will be glad to answer any questions you might have. Following is a list of available exemptions.
General Homestead (Owner Occupied) Exemption: Available if it is your primary residence. It will deduct $6,000.00 from your assessed value.
Homestead Senior Exemption: If you have the owner occupied and have reached the age of 65, you are eligible for this which will deduct another $5,000.00 from your assessed value. This exemption has no income limit, only the age requirement.
Senior Freeze Exemption: If you have the owner occupied and senior exemption, and a total household income of less than $75,000.00, you are eligible for this exemption which will freeze your assessment at what it was the prior year. This value has been raised from the previous $65,000.00.
Social Security Disability Exemption: This exemption will deduct $2,000.00 from your assessed value. We will need a copy of your award letter from Social Security Administration.
Veteran’s Disability Exemption: If you have been awarded a Veteran’s Disability of more than 30%, you are eligible for this exemption. The exemption amount varies with the degree of disability percentage. We will require a copy of your award letter from the Veteran’s Administration.
Homestead Improvement Exemption: If you have made an improvement to your residence such as an addition to your home or new garage. This exemption will cover the cost of the improvement up to the cash value of $75,000.00 for four years.
