The McLeansboro Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating Michael J Mezo (63-year-old Male).
On December 11th, 2025, the McLeansboro Police Department along with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a search warrant at the Michael Mezo residence located at 500 N. Washington Street in McLeansboro in reference to a child pornography investigation. At the time of the search warrant an arrest was not made due to the stage of the investigation. Upon further investigation, several charges of possession of child sexual assault material have been located by McLeansboro Police Department’s Investigations Team.
On the early morning of December 15th, 2025, at around 6:40am the Hamilton County Dispatch Center received a 911 call about an active home invasion on Broadway Street in McLeansboro. The caller reported that a male intruder had entered the home from the basement and then attacked both senior citizen occupants inside of the residence striking the male subject in the head with a brick which caused the victim to seek medical attention. The victim was able to identify the intruder as Michael Mezo. Multiple attempts to locate Mezo have been unsuccessful.
Mezo is described as: 63 Years Old, 5ft 6in, 150lbs, Gray or White Hair, Hazel Eyes (Usually Seen with eye glasses)
There is an active nationwide warrant for Mezo’s arrest. Mezo is facing several charges that include multiple counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, home invasion, multiple counts of aggravated battery of senior citizen, and residential burglary. We ask that you do not approach Mezo as he should be considered armed and dangerous.
We ask if you see Mezo, please contact law enforcement. Mezo is known to panhandle in Mt. Vernon and Marion, IL areas and is believed to have possibly fled the immediate area. Mezo also has ties to the St. Louis and Kentucky area.
It should also be noted that Mezo should be considered innocent until proven guilty in court proceedings.
