Enfield Village Board Talks Lighting, Sells 20 Acres Behind Park to Wickers, Tables Utility Hire

The Enfield Village Board met for its regular monthly meeting.  Scott Mareing was there and has details.
The hour and 45 minute meeting got off to an inauspicious start. It was announced that the one side of the street that the Village Building is located had all the new street lights installed and plans to finish the other side were being made. For about 15 minutes Mayor Maurie Black and board members Jim Bolin and Terry Harrison, had a sometimes lively discussion about whether the village or Ameren could decide if the lines for a couple of the poles can be run overhead or trenched across the street. It was determined that the village had control over the lighting.  After input from the other board members, it was decided that Mayor Black and Harrison will get together and decide which way would be best to run the wiring.  All board members approved, except for Bolin, who abstained.
The board accepted the only bid for the 20 acres behind the park, which was from Mike and Ruth Wicker for $45,000, who will own whatever mineral rights there may be on the land.
Village Attorney Jonathan Turpin presented the Fiscal Year 2025 budget to the board, which was approved, as was the tax levy ordinance.
Estimates for the Community Center repairs are still being gathered.
Bids have yet to be received on the parcel of land on Miller Street that’s for sale.
In the Police Report, the radar on the squad car is malfunctioning and that will be looked into.
In the Animal Control report, there are still reports of several dogs running loose.
The board went into Executive Session for 25 minutes to discuss personnel.  The board members could not decide whether to hire a specific individual for the Utilities Department, so they agreed to hold a special meeting shortly to make a decision.
The board adjourned at 8:45 PM.
