Residents in Mill Shoals were unhappy after the Village of Mill Shoals’ September board meeting.
A citizen attended the October monthly meeting and requested that the board help clean up the Village, stating that Mill Shoals has way too much junk, especially along Main Street. They also noted that many residents shared the same feelings about the issue but were unable to attend the meeting last month.
Trustee Bare shared his feelings on the issue with previous board members, “they just went after people they didn’t like.” Trustee Shuler stated that she would draft a letter asking all residents to be mindful of excessive belongings scattered amongst their property and to bring any concerns or thoughts to the next board meeting.
Moving right along their agenda, the board members agreed to put $6,000 toward the Village’s Mary Heath Foundation Grant Application for the repair of a closed bridge. Unfortunately, with the federal government still shut down, pauses are in effect on the USDA financing application for the water system project, on answering their application with the Delta Regional Authority SEDAP, and on applying for the IL DCEO Federal Matching grant.
Even with the shutdown, the board members will still work ahead and meet with the White County Engineer to learn more about what they can do to help the Village with bridges and streets that need repairs.
Village Treasurer Murphy attended the monthly meeting but told members he would have the tax levy and appropriations ordinances ready for a vote at the December meeting. Murphy would also be preparing a semi-annual Treasurer’s Report.
A reminder was made to residents of Mill Shoals that the Town-Wide Garbage Pick-Up will be on November 10th.
In Old Business, the materials to fix the restroom ceiling from SI Kinacaid’s were ready for Leo Nevins, who said he will install the repairs. Trustee Smothers is still gathering recipes from the community for the Cookbook Fundraiser.
