The Enfield Village Board met Tuesday night for their regular monthly meeting for under two hours. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
In old business, the Christmas lights have been ordered and 14 of the 16 poles have been donated to, the new truck has arrived and they will purchase running boards for it, the Community Center repairs estimate and the Park Grant are still being worked on, no bids have been received on the 20 acres behind the park, Monday the fence posts for the Northside Park were installed with the fence itself still to be put in. Also, there were two bids received on the 2005 GMC Sierra K3500 truck that’s for sale. The board accepted the highest bid of $2,000 by Kyle Poore. The board also accepted the only bid for the land parcel at 209 Sacramento St. from Lowell Duckworth for $1,500. There were no bids received on the land parcel on Miller St.
The board by a vote of three to two approved allowing inflatables to be used at Community Center events with the ability to re-evaluate the situation at any time.
The board members held a discussion for about 20 minutes on whether owners of small vehicles should be required to have a permit to drive them on main roads. It was decided that ANY motorized vehicle on village roads are required to have a permit to drive them, along with requirements that the driver must be at least 16 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and must obey all speed limits and traffic laws.
In the Animal Control report, there were several loose dogs caught and then given back to their owners.
In the Police Report, it was a quiet period.
In the Utilities Report, board members looked over several prices on mowers. They approved the purchase of a Sharp II mower from Southern Illinois Trading & Supply of Carmi for $13,599. The board is looking down the road at purchasing a Hydrovac, which is a pressure washer to loosen soil with a vacuum. Also, a department employee resigned last week.
In new business, the board approved Trick or Treat hours of 4-8 PM on October 31st with Trunk or Treat to be held at the Community Center, turkey and ham along with a $325 Christmas bonus for each village employee, a donation to the NCOE Yearbook ad at the same amount as last year, and allowing the NCOE Cheerleaders to host a Mile for Meals Turkey Trot 5-K Run on Saturday, November 8th. And the board also approved a $100 donation to the Enfield Fire Department Coal Belt Meeting. This is a backup plan in case of a major fire.
In other business, the paperwork is completed for the Police contract with Mill Shoals, which was approved at last month’s board meeting.
The village paid off half of the sewer grant money, $15,000 to the state of Illinois for survey work. They will pay the rest when the state receives the first half.
The board voted to accept applications for a new utility department employee with a committee put together to decide who to hire.
