The Enfield Village Board met Tuesday night in its regular monthly session for about two hours. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
Mayor Maurie Black said he finally got a call from the engineer at Ameren on the village street lighting, and he will come in to meet with him this Thursday afternoon.
They are taking donations for Christmas lights, which cost from $300 to $600, and several have already been purchased, including by village board members. In a related item, Red Neck Wrestling, which has been doing some shows here, collected $65 in donations to be used specifically for Christmas lights
Brandon Smythe will begin in the role of full time Police officer for two years beginning September 1st. A contract is now being drawn up.
It seems the sending out of letters to get people to clean up their properties seems to be working. Many have noticed that people have been cleaning up.
The new truck finally came in, but the backup camera and the harness on the trailer line were not included. They should be in soon.
The village is compiling an estimate of all the Community Center repairs needed in order to be able to apply for grant money.
There was a motion made to put out for bids on the 20 acres behind the park, but it died due to the lack of a second.
They are still looking into obtaining a park grant.
And the fencing and the two gates for Northside Park are being put in.
One of the poles on the ring after a recent Red Neck Wrestling event accidentally fell over and when it hit the floor, it made a dent in it. They’ll be looking into the cost of repairing the dent and the insurance situation.
During public comments, several people said they were pleased with the work Kyle Poore did on cleaning up the lots.
In the Animal Control report, James Steele said he’s had several calls about cats and one dog is in the pound.
In new business, a resolution was approved to shut down the highway during Mule Days for the parade.
The board wanted everyone to know that UTV, or Utility Terrain Vehicle, permits are now up for renewal.
The board then went into an Executive Session for about 45 minutes. It was decided that the amount of vacation days for village employees will be increased, and the amount of sick days allowed will be looked at being increased to comply with state law. And an ordinance will be looked at to change the guidelines for eligibility to be a village employee from having to living inside the village limits to living within a certain mile radius of the village.
