Ronald G. Yates, 62, of Ridgway, Illinois, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026. Ron was born on October 26, 1963, in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of Francis and Willa (Daniel) Yates.
Those who knew Ron knew he had three great loves. First was the outdoors—whether hunting, fishing, hiking, or adding to his vast collection of arrowheads and rocks, he simply loved being outside. He also enjoyed collecting anything heart-shaped, a hobby that reflected his sentimental nature. Second was his love of music. Ron had a true passion for playing the bass guitar and found joy in writing songs, singing, performing, and simply listening to music. He proudly played bass with the local band Three Blind Mice for several years, creating lasting friendships and many cherished memories through music. Third, and most important, was his family. He adored his children and grandchildren and cherished every moment he was able to spend with them.
Ron was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. He later relocated to Southern Illinois, where he worked as a carpenter in the construction trade for many years.
Ron is survived by his children, Dalton (Katreena) Yates, Cherish (Stetson) Yates, Eric (Breanna) Williams and Chasity (Brandon) Hutchinson; grandchildren, Carter and Ava Hutchinson, Aurora and Layla Yates, Ryker Cook, and a grandson, Rydge Baker, who is on the way; bonus daughter and grandchild, Dezra Ricketts and Caius Ricketts; and sisters, Nita Nix and Francie (Mario) Watts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Willa Yates; his sister, Shelia Hook; and his life partner, Linda Isom.
A Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Denning Family Funeral Home, 1330 E 4th Street in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Life immediately following at Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
