The White County Sheriff’s Department and the Norris City Police Department will be conducting an active shooter training drill at NCO Grade School during the afternoon of Friday, March 11.
White County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Craig Poole said that no students will be present during the drill, but teachers and administrators will participate.
The NCOE School District and law enforcement officials have recently met to work on the details and planning for the full scale exercise, and Sgt. Poole reports that the goal of the drill is for each agency to practice their respective duties and for the staff to practice school policy and lock down protocols should an emergency situation arise.
Sgt. Poole said that the public is being informed in advance of the drill, so they should not be alarmed by the presence of several law enforcement officers present at the school during the drill, or if they hear calls via dispatchers on the radio frequency during the event.
