White County Sheriff Jordan Weiss has requested assistance from the Illinois State Police after suspected misconduct by a local correctional officer. In a release issued Tuesday afternoon, Weiss says it was this (Tuesday, November 11th) morning while jail administration was conducting a routine review of security cameras that they saw a corrections officer enter the cell of a female inmate late Monday night. He says the video appears to show inappropriate conduct. Weiss would only say the three-year full time employee of the county has been placed on immediate leave without pay and that he directly made contact with ISP to request an independent investigation.
“The inmates in our jail are under our care. We take their well being and safety as our highest priority.”
Illinois State Police will be handling the investigation and any additional information will come from their office, Weiss says.
