Water Rates Go Up for the Village of Enfield

A rarity for the Enfield Village Board meeting Tuesday night – it only went just over an hour.  Scott Mareing was there and has this report…

The main story, which actually came near the end of the meeting, was that the village voted to raise water rates two and one half percent every quarter starting with the next billing cycle, with the increase being reviewed every quarter.  Others are raising their water rates as well.

In old business, the street lighting is still going on as they are waiting for some concrete to come in; the estimate for community center repairs and the park grant are still ongoing; the parcel of land on Miller Street is still open for bids; they’re still looking for a burnisher as the prices they’ve seen are too high; the bids are being reworked on the state truck and a new cylinder for the truck is coming in; and the board accepted the price quote on security cameras for the town, which will include the village building, of $2,869.90.

Trish Bellimore of the Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission was going to speak to the board about renting the kitchen at the Enfield Community Center to make lunches for needy children, but she was out of town and unable to attend.

The board approved the building of a permanent small home to be built on the property at 609 Gowdy Street.

The board members also approved a proposal from member Jim Bolin to basically bring together the various committees.  They would meet and make suggestions and agree on ways to improve Enfield.  Also, the gas committee will be allowed to get quotes on gas prices and bring them to the board for possible approval.

In the Animal Control report, there have been some complaints of dogs barking and running loose.

In the Police Report, they will be looking for drivers not obeying school bus rules when kids are going to school in the morning.  Also, Springerton wants to end their deal on Police coverage, saying it’s too expensive, and will send a letter soon on the matter.

Concerning the fallout from those that don’t pay their utility bills on time, there were two people that were late on their payment frequently, who paid their bills in full recently under the threat of being shut off.  The board hopes the policy on paying delinquent bills will continue in a positive manner.

In new business, the annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 4th at 1 PM sharp; the board donated $150 to the Easter Egg Hunt, the same as last year; they also donated $150 to the NCOE Drug Free Graduation Party, the same as last year; the board agreed to a resolution using MFT funds for chipping and sealing of streets and for sidewalk repair; and the Town Wide Clean Up day will be on Saturday, April 25th.

The board adjourned at 8:13 PM.
