Those wishing to honor the late Corporal Jackie Lee Thurman of Norris City are being tasked with helping honor his memory and the family by creating a memorial of flags for the soldier’s trip back home. Rod Thompson, a veteran himself, and Executive Administrator of The Flagman’s Mission Continues is asking for volunteers to help set up and take down flags in anticipation of Thurman’s ride home. He says flag set up will be on Thursday at 4pm with takedown scheduled for Sunday at 1pm. Up to 600 3×5 flags on 10-foot poles will be flown in and around the Norris City community. Volunteers are requested to meet at the Norris City American Legion Post. Additional needs include at least four clean and empty pickup trucks (no trailers) to take the flags from the van to the set up locations. You’re also asked to bring work gloves, wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water to hydrate.
