Town Wide Rummage Sale, TIF Payment and More for Norris City Board

The Norris City Village Board held its regular monthly meeting Monday night.  Scott Mareing was there and has this report…

Danny Woosley presented the renewal of the village health insurance plan.  Woosley said that several companies have stopped providing health insurance, so their options will be limited in the future and costs continue to go up.  After going over the numbers, he said their plan’s cost will increase nine percent.  Mayor Skip Land said the employees are satisfied with their current plan.  The board unanimously agreed to renew the employee’s health insurance with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois.

The Chamber of Commerce building on East Main St. has been used sparingly, but they plan to use it more often this year, so the board approved allowing the Chamber to continue use of the building.

The White County Housing Authority was sent a letter saying that after reading the water meters, there was a leak of 120,000 gallons at one of their buildings, which was apparently abandoned.  The WCHA disputed that, saying they read the meters and there was no leak. Mayor Land said they apparently read the wrong meters, so he said he was going to show them the proper way to read the water meters so that doesn’t happen in the future.

Heath Short of La-D-Da was to go to court with the village to settle the dispute with TIF money that was owed, but Short decided to pay them $17,100, so there was no trial.

The draft deal with NCOE for Beatty Field was tabled, as there were some minor changes made and time is needed to look them over.

The new street light is up at Southern Circle, and they would like to have two more installed. So that will be looked into.

The village decided to go with Novacom for the village office’s computer software, instead of Lazerware.

The paperwork is in for the loan disposition for Phase IV of the Water Project.

The board agreed to again donate $500 to the NCOE Senior Trip, $250 for the planters on the village streets, and $300 to the NCAA for a team sponsorship.  They tabled the White County CEO request for a $3,000 donation at $1,000 each year for three years, saying the amount was steep, to look over it further.

A culvert on Conger St. is blocked off, causing it to not drain properly.  It will be looked into.

The backstop is up at the ball field and there is now extra parking available.  And painting is being done.

The town wide rummage sales will be on May 2nd and 3rd, and the town wide clean up days will be from May 5th to the 8th.

In the Police Report for March, there were nine reports written, three arrests made, eight traffic stops and warnings, and three citations issued.  They’ve started on yard cleanup, nuisance and abandoned vehicle letters, three of which have been served to date.

In the Animal Control Report, there have been six skunks captured.

The board adjourned at 8:15 PM

The next meeting of the Norris City Board will be on May 7th at 7 PM.
