Three Arrested by White County Sheriff’s Department

The White County Sheriff’s Department has made a few arrests this week.

Starting on Tuesday, a Deputy noticed a Chevrolet Blazer failing to use their turn signal. While observing the driver, Michael Wyant, the Deputy knew him to have a revoked Illinois driver’s License.

A traffic stop was conducted on Wyant, and he was informed of the reasoning behind the stop. The Deputy placed Wyant under arrest for the revoked Illinois license; a citation was also issued to him for not having proof of insurance.

Wyant will appear before a judge on November 4 at 9:00 a.m. for his notice to appear. Wyant was later released.

On Wednesday, a call was made to the White County Sheriff’s Office that Nickolas Hays was at a residence in Crossville. The officer knew that Hays had a White County Failure to Appear Warrant for Aggravated Battery on a victim over the age of 60.

When the officer arrived at the location, the caller specified that Hays was present, but the officer was unable to locate him. Assistance was called to the Carmi Police K9 Sergeant.

K9 partner Rex was deployed by the Sergeant, who then notified officers of a scent in a ditch. That’s where the officers noticed a male walking close by.

The male was identified as Hays and was swiftly placed into custody. Hays was later released after appearing before Judge T. Scott Webb, who then set a Pre-Trial for October 29 at 10:00 a.m. for the charges of Aggravated Battery, Theft, and Criminal Damage to property. Hays also added a new charge to his name for resisting or obstructing a Peace Officer.

Lastly, on Thursday, White County Sheriff officers responded to a call of a female passed out in the driver’s seat at the intersection of County Road 600 E and County Road 550 North.

Once the officer arrived, it was determined that the woman was Kimberly Smith. The officer searched the vehicle and found a cigarette pack that contained a glass smoking pipe and a clear plastic baggie containing a crystal substance. In the rear driver’s floorboard, the officer also located a cooler that contained another clear baggie with a brownish, powdery substance. Both the crystal substance and brownish substance tested positive for Methamphetamine.

Smith was placed under arrest and taken to the White County Jail by an officer with the Norris City Police Department. She is being charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Use of Property, Possession of Stolen Property over $500, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Adult Use Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle.
