Tempers Smoldered; Embers Remain as Crossville Trustees Gather for Speedy Board Meeting

After a volatile April 14th meeting, leaders gathered for what turned out to be a swift meeting to close out the month April 28th.  It took just under 9 minutes to race through a scant agenda.  The only moments of discussion surrounded the tank battery fire that happened Monday near town and complaints raised by residents Jordan Ambrous and Lori Cullison.  Trustee Nikki Jacobs requested to have the pair’s complaints added to the next meeting agenda.  Those complaints were lodged at the April 14th meeting and surround property issues Cullison and her son say they’re having and not receiving assistance from the village on.  In Open Meeting Tuesday, Ambrous voiced his displeasure at Village President Rick Kuykendall for not signing and returning the documents he delivered at the April 14th meeting.  Kuykendall didn’t take the bait.

Ambrous:  I’m just curious why you as the mayor are allowed to lie straight to our faces and say you’re going to sign stuff received and then hand it back not [signed].

Kuykendall:  You’re talking about the papers you handed to me at last meeting.  I kind of went with the lawyers advice on that.  He said that that was some things we’d had in the past and he advised me it didn’t really need to be received [signed].  There was nothing there that I could see that…and if I had known that prior to telling you I’d have signed it, I probably wouldn’t have said that to you.

Ambrous:  So then also, we’ve gotten nothing in writing yet on about what you’re going to do with the complaints we did file at last meeting…and heard nothing.

Kuykendall:  Well I believe it’s been turned over to the lawyer.  As soon as we can get that stuff, we’re going to address that stuff.

Ambrous:  Well don’t you think it would’ve been nice to let us know it’d been forwarded to the lawyer.

Kuykendall:  Ummm…I think maybe so.  You’re probably right.  Yeah, you’re right.

Ambrous:  I appreciate that.

Kuykendall went on to say that village officials had told them before that “a lot of that stuff” was civil.

The only other discussion was an update from Fire Chief Lance Clevenger on the tank battery fire that happened on Monday.  It was a long day as firefighters battled the flames from about 9am until after 7pm.  He said one Posey County firefighter was injured battling the blaze when he slipped after a fortification gave way and got hot oil in his boots.  He says he heard that firefighter is doing well and expressed appreciation for other agencies that helped out with the inferno.
