Springerton man airlifted after hit by truck Saturday morning

According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, the driver of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, 45 year old Johnny L. Williams of Springerton, was traveling eastbound on Blairsville Blacktop 361 feet west of County Road North 1450E, at approximately 1:09 am Saturday when for unknown reasons he drove off the left side of the roadway striking a culvert and then drove back onto the roadway stopping in the middle of the roadway.

Williams exited the vehicle. The driver of a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado, Matthew A. Lydick, was traveling eastbound on the Blairsville Blacktop approaching the scene of the crash. Lydick observed the Jeep in the middle of the roadway and attempted to swerve to avoid striking the Jeep. Williams stepped out from behind the Jeep and was struck by Lydick in the pickup.

Williams was transported by ambulance from the scene to an area hospital where he was then airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment. Both vehicles were towed from the crash scene.

ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, Mcleansboro Police Department, Harre’s Ambulance Service, Air Evac, and Cherry Street Automotive

Lydick was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid Accident
