Severe Weather Awareness Week

 

The National Weather Service at Paducah, Ky will be observing Severe weather awareness weeks throughout the tri-state the next several weeks, which will include tornado drills.

Next week, March 3 through the 9th Severe Weather Awareness Week will be observed here in White County. An area wide tornado drill be conducted at approximately 10 Tuesday morning, March 5.

Kentucky’s awareness week will run concurrently with the Illinois observance. Kentucky’s tornado drill will also be conducted Tuesday morning, however it will be held shortly after 9.

 

Indiana will observe the special week, from March 17 through the 22nd. The Indiana tornado drill be held around 9:15 Tuesday morning, march 20th.

The weather bureau will host a special 2019 Severe Weather workshop from 9 a.m. until about noon, Monday March 18.

Steve Piltz, meteorologist in charge of the Tulsa, OK weather station will be talking about the Great Tri-State Tornado of 1925, including recent historical research on the nation’s deadliest tornado. Steve is a native of Murphysboro, Ill., which lost 234 people in the 1925 tornado.
