Posey County Man Faces 28 Charges

An arrest was made on Friday in a recent series of vehicle thefts in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, thanks to the Mt. Vernon Police Department and Posey County Prosecutor’s Office.
Mt. Vernon Police conducted a traffic stop on 26-year-old Rayvon Robbins, initially for an unrelated drug possession charge. During the arrest for this charge, officers found a wallet in his possession that had been reported stolen from a vehicle several weeks earlier.
According to a press release, Robbins was identified as a person of interest in a series of thefts from unlocked vehicles in January. The nature of the theft reports involved an unknown suspect going through unlocked cars in multiple neighborhoods in Mt. Vernon, where various items were stolen, including cash and firearms.
An investigation began into Robbins, during which officers seized Robbins’ cellular phone and located data confirming that Robbins was in the area of the thefts during the relevant time periods. Surveillance videos from his apartment complex showed Robbins leaving and returning during the time frames of the reported thefts.
Following the investigation, Posey County Prosecutor Thomas Clowers charged Robbins with 28 counts, including multiple charges of Theft of a Firearm, Theft, and Unauthorized Entry of a Motor Vehicle. If convicted, Robbins could face more than 12 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000.
