
The Norris City Village Board met for just under an hour Monday night for its regular monthly meeting. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
The first order of business was the swearing in of the village clerk and the village board members, which are the same as the last term.
Caleb Lydick, who lives on Cherry Street, brought to the board’s attention about several vehicles speeding on his street and becoming a potential hazard there, especially to children at play. He suggested putting some stop signs up. Mayor Skip land said there also has been talk in the past of putting up speed bumps or having increased police presence. The Mayor said they will take the matter under advisement and try to come up with a good solution.
Janice Crow, Region 20 Council Manager of “Birth to Five Illinois”, which covers White, Hamilton, Hardin, Wayne, Gallatin, Saline, Edwards, Wabash, and Pope counties, spoke to the board to give information about their services. Their goal is to give easy access for children to receive a high quality education. It includes child care options, as well as mental and behavioral health resources.
The Phase V water project permit has expired and will have to be re-permitted.
The board approved a new water disconnect policy and gave the Mayor permission to aggressively go after residents that are late on paying their utility bills
Mayor Land will attend the Gas Utilities Alliance meeting in Effingham on June 10th.
The deck is worn out on the village lawnmower and it costs about $3,000. The Mayor said it would probably be better to just get a new mower.He also said they need to buy a trailer to haul the truck, which would cost about $1,800. The board gave him permission to look into purchasing both.
Phase IV water payments are starting to come in.
There will be another 3K run on May 24th, using the same route as the last one.
The village received the TIF settlement, which totaled $17,100 and closed out the account.
MFT money for 2025 was approved for road work.
In the Police Report for April, there were two reports written, three accident reports, three arrests, seven traffic stops and warnings and three citations issued, as well as 44 dispatch calls. Letters are being sent out on yard cleanup, nuisance and abandoned vehicles. Seven inoperable vehicle and yard cleanup letters have already been sent out.
The board adjourned at 7:55 PM. The next meeting of the village board will be on June 2nd at 7 PM.
