The Carmi-White County Baseball team pulled off the upset in the IHSA Regional Semifinals in Mt. Carmel yesterday afternoon, defeating the 2-seeded Fairfield Mules by a final score of 6-2.
Carmi jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning after Merick Millhorn scored on a passed ball. Fairfield answered with 2 in the home half of the inning, but the Bulldogs would re-take the lead and never give it back.
Carmi scored 3 runs in the 2nd inning on RBIs by Abe Girten, Cole Evans, and Millhorn.
The Bulldogs then scored 2 more in the 3rd inning on a two-run RBI single by Colton Marvin to extend their lead to 6-2, and that would be all that the Bulldogs needed.
Millhorn pitched all 7 innings, allowing just 2 runs (both unearned) on 4 hits with 9 strikeouts.
At the plate,
Millhorn went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Maxon O’Daniel went 1-for-4
Evan Cronin went 1-for-4 with a run scored.
Jaxon Bradshaw went 1-for-4 with 2 runs scored.
Colton Marvin went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
Jayse Digman went 1-for-3
Abe Girten went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Cole Evans went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
The Bulldogs improve to 8-19 on the season as they have now won 4-straight games and they advance to the Class 2A Regional Championship for the first time since 2022.
Carmi will face either Mt. Carmel or Benton who will play each other this afternoon.
The Regional Championship will be played on Saturday in Mt. Carmel with first pitch set for 11 AM.

Best of luck to CWCHS juniors Andrew and Connor Benham who will head to the IHSA State Track Meet today at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Andrew will be competing in the 1600 Meter Run, and Connor will be competing in Pole Vault.
