The Carmi-White County Girls Basketball team defeated Harrisburg last night at the IHSA 2A Eldorado Regional Semifinals by a final score of 44-42.
Carmi led by as many as 13 points in the first half, but Harrisburg stormed all the way back to tie the game at 42-42 with 3 minutes to play. Caroline Simmons gave Carmi the lead right back with a basket to make it 44-42, and the Lady Bulldog defense would hold on in the final two and half minutes to pull off the upset victory.
Torrie Rider led Carmi in scoring with 15 points.
Caroline Simmons and Addi Elliott each scored 11.
Natalie Goemaat scored 4.
Jaya Smith scored 3.
The Lady Bulldogs move on to the 2A Regional Championship on Thursday where they will face Olney, who defeated Hamilton County last night by a final score of 59-48. Olney handed Carmi their first loss of the season 54-49 back on December 16th.
This will be the third straight trip to the Regional Championship for the Lady Bulldogs, as they are still looking to win their first regional title since 2010.

The Carmi-White County Boys Basketball team will travel to Lawrenceville tonight to battle the Indians in a non-conference tilt.
The Bulldogs come into tonight’s game with a 2-21 record, meanwhile Lawrenceville is 26-2 and are currently ranked as the #1 team in Class 1A.
Fans can watch and listen to tonight’s game on 97.3 FM WRUL and the WRUL Sports YouTube Channel. Varsity will tip-off around 7:30 PM.
