The following is a statement from Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB) President Richard Guebert, Jr., regarding the House defeat of the 2018 Farm Bill.
“We’re extremely disappointed today to see the House vote down the 2018 Farm Bill. At a time when net farm income is projected to fall to a 12-year low and the trade deals on which we rely are constantly called into question or renegotiated, the safety net programs included in the farm bill are more important than ever.
“America’s farmers should not be used as a bargaining chip in Washington D.C. politics. We urge the House to pass H.R. 2 as soon as possible.”
