IECC Board of Trustees Meeting – December 12, 2017

The Board of Trustees of Illinois Eastern Community College District No. 529 met Tuesday night, December 12th at Wabash Valley College, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  Trustees honored the memory of Harry Hillis for his role as the first Secretary to the original IECC Board of Trustees and for serving 47 continuous years until his retirement in 2014.   Upon his 2014 retirement, the IECC Board of Trustees awarded Mr. Hillis an honorary “Doctor of Boardology” Degree.  Mr. Hillis, age 89, passed away December 8th.

Approval was given for agreements with Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, to offer Motorcycle Rider Training courses at all four of the IECC colleges, Frontier Community College in Fairfield, Lincoln Trail College in Robinson, Olney Central College in Olney, and Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel.

Trustees approved a policy and a new fee structure for Allied Health Technology Programs to better incorporate the use of technology into the curriculum for students enrolled in the Allied Health programs.

The Board of Trustees agreed to allow Lake Land College to teach at the Lawrence Correctional Center and at the Robinson Correctional Center facilities.  IECC did teach at the prisons, but stopped due to the State’s failure to pay the Board for the teaching services rendered.    This agreement with Lake Land will be for the next three years and the Board can reinstitute IECC’s instructional offerings at the correctional centers by giving notice to Lake Land.

Affiliation agreements were approved with Carle Richland Memorial Hospital for Frontier’s Health Informatics Program and with Crawford Memorial Hospital for Lincoln Trail’s Basic Nurse Assistant Program.

Revisions were approved to the Policy on Preventing Sexual Misconduct to ensure compliance with recent legislative changes that address retaliation and consequences of making a false report.

A lease for office space located at Lincoln Trail College was approved with Twin Rivers Regional Vocational System.

Employment was approved for Lonnie Barnes as Collision Repair Instructor at Olney Central College and for Becky Coleman, Nursing Instructor at Olney Central

College and at Wabash Valley College.  Both employments will be effective January 3, 2018.

Next regular meeting of the Board of Trustees will be Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Trail College, Robinson.
