Grayville leaders moved swiftly through a light agenda Monday. Just ten minutes in open session and no executive session resulted in commissioners making quick work of the solitary agenda item which ended up tabled. Mayor Travis Thompson asked commissioners to consider amending the ordinance dealing with hours for solicitors/peddlers within city limits. A recommendation was made to only allow door to door sales between Monday and Friday and within the 10am – 5pm time parameters. Any action was tabled while City Attorney Jay Walden drafts the changes.
Walden and Commissioner Don Baldwin commented on their appreciation for folks in the community to work on cleaning up and maintaining lots in the city.
Police Chief Mason Siegel gave the July activity report saying there were 207 calls for service during the month, 10 investigations opened, 6 arrests and 3 warrants served. Department officers also wrote 8 citations and handed out 4 written warnings.
Tuesday morning, Mayor Thompson praised what he called much needed infrastructure upgrades while announcing that North Main from East North to East Mill will be closed for the next 2-3 days while concrete is poured where the new water line was laid.
Financially, Grayville is sitting on more than $1.7 million in restricted funds, has more than $1.4 million in investments, and has $158,718 in cash available for operation for a grand total of $3.3 million.
