Grayville Council Approves Boo Bash, Christmas Parade Street Closures, New Pavement Striping, and More

Grayville Days is coming up this weekend, but leaders are working to get plans in place for fall events.  As part of the Grayville City Council meeting Monday night, commissioners granted the annual street closure for the Grayville Community Arts Association’s Boo Bash.

Also Monday night, with no executive session, council was able to speed through business in just 22 minutes.  Among the accomplishments, top brass accepted a bid for striping and painting downtown at $5,620.  Mayor Travis Thompson has details.

That includes removing the old paint that’s on the north side and moving the parking to more of an angle so you can see a bit better.

Council is on their way to amending an ordinance that would further limit when solicitors/peddlers are allowed to knock on doors in the city limits.  If it passes a second reading at September 8th meeting, soliciting would only be allowed Monday through Saturday from 10am – 5pm.  City Attorney Jay Walden says residents can completely prevent it with a posted sign on their property.

Council granted Terri Garman a $500 Revolving Loan Grant for Wee Care Daycare to address recent storm damage.  The city is also acquiring the property at 611 Water Street.  Mayor Thompson says it will be a teardown project.

Finally, council approved pay estimates and change orders for the waterline project and agreed to sign a co-applicant agreement with Albion for the Economic Development Administration.  Engineer Rex Gower says doing so will strengthen their grant application for a proposed joint water treatment plant.
