Full-Time Police Officer, Village Audit and More for Enfield Village Meeting

The Enfield Village Board met for its regular monthly meeting Tuesday night for an hour and a half. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…

Justin Dartt of Dartt & Company gave the village audit for the fiscal year ending 4/30/25.  He said the audit went very well and all the fund balances are positive.  The village made the appropriate gas, sewer and water rate changes needed.  There is no risk of default, they met the legal debt margin and are under the debt limit.  The board approved the audit and approved a contract with Dartt & Company for the next fiscal year for $13,000.  That’s up $500 from this year’s contract.

Village Attorney Jonathan Turpin presented the board members with the Tentative Budget and said that a Truth in Taxation hearing wasn’t needed. The Tentative Budget was approved and the final budget should be ready for approval at next month’s meeting.

Also approved was a change of dates in the police service contract with Mill Shoals.  The new contract will begin on October 1st and be in effect for 13 consecutive months.

In old business: work on the street lighting is ongoing.  They hope to have the south side of town ready by Mule Day; nine people have applied to purchase Christmas lights and the village is waiting on finding out the types of lights and prices to order them; they’re still working on getting estimates for Community Center repairs; the board agreed to put the 20 acres behind the park up for bids; they’re looking at replacing the bleachers and remodel the bathrooms at the park with their grant money; and installation of the fence at Northside Park has started and it should be ready by the end of this month.

In the Animal Control report, there was one dog at the pound and two cats have been taken away.  You can contact Animal Control at 618-384-0667.

In the Police report, Brandon Smythe is ready to start as full time Police officer starting Wednesday.

In the Utilities report, the skag mower is still running well, but it has a lot of hours on it.  They will look at pricing for a new one to have two available for use.

In new business, Enfield will put up for sale the 2005 GMC Sierra K3500, two parcels  – one at Miller Street and another at 209 Sacramento Street.  They are accepting bids on all three items, to be opened at next month’s meeting.

Also approved was $100 to renew the Mule Day banner, sponsoring of two trophies for the Enfield Car Show be held on October 18th, a resolution closing the street for the Car Show, and the purchase of a laptop for the Village Clerk.

The board asked the public be informed that if you want to let people know of a community event for Enfield, you can send it to them and it will be put on the village website, and the village is looking for volunteers to help with the Haunted Halls that will be held at the Booth School on Halloween night.

The board adjourned at 8:29 PM.
