Flood Warning Update and Forecast Crests

Flood Warnings continue throughout the region.  Locally, the Little Wabash River at Carmi is currently nearing 28 feet.  Flood stage is 27 feet.  The forecast calls for the river at Carmi to rise to near 30 feet by Saturday morning followed by a slow fall.  The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is currently flowing at over 26 feet.  Flood stage there is 19 feet.  The river at Mt. Carmel is expected to rise to near 27.3 feet by Wednesday morning and then begin falling.  Current estimates call for the river to fall below flood stage at Mt. Carmel sometime around Tuesday, July 2nd.  At New Harmony, the Wabash is near 18.5 feet, about 3.5 feet above flood stage.  The river is expected to crest at New Harmony near 19.7 feet by Thursday afternoon.  If it reaches 20 feet there, parts of northern New Harmony will flood and sandbagging will become necessary in town.  Elsewhere, the Little Wabash east of Fairfield is over 25 feet, 8 feet over the flood stage.  The Skillet Fork at Wayne City remains within its banks and the Little Wabash at Clay city is just over 3 feet beyond it’s 18 foot flood stage.
